Spaghetti, Pancakes & Guys

Hey Ya'll!

We've recently updated the FlipSide website to make it much easier for you to access all the FS info your heart desires. Come check us out at www.flipside.net and subscribe to our blog so all the 411 you need will come straight to your living room or bathroom or wherever you keep your computer.

Last week Pastor Ron made a guest appearance at FlipSide and covered a topic that was sent in as a question for our "What's Buggin' You" series. "Is Homosexuality a sin or are people born with it?" This topic has become incredibly sensitive and controversial over the past 5 years and Pastor Ron did an amazing job laying the foundation by asking, "Who defines what is right and wrong?" This week he'll be going deeper into the scripture to reveal God's plan for how we are to respond when confronted with this issue.

On Wednesday, April 9th from 7-9 FlipSide is having our first ever "Great Night of Pancakes."

"What is The Great Night of Pancakes," you ask?

I'm glad you asked. We're celebrating Spring Break with a night of all you can eat pancakes. With 3 griddles placed around the room and an array of toppings, the possibilities will be endless. There will be plenty competitions centered around the incredible edible pancake :) Bring your friends, bring a fork, and definitely bring your appetite!

On Friday, April 11-12 from 7pm - 9am, FlipSide is having Man Night! It's gonna be a night to remember as we go deep into the 80 acres of woods surrounding The ROCK. So bring $5, a friend, a sleeping bag, dark clothes, a change of clothes (just in case), and your sense of adventure. We're gonna have a blast! Check out this video.

Finally, if you're headed to Myrtle Beach with us in June, you'll want to take advantage of our Spaghetti Fundraiser on April 19th from 10-2pm in The ROCK's fellowship hall. All proceeds will be divided among those who participate so come ready to serve.

HAVE AN AWESOME WEEK!!

Jesus for Dummies

Hey Parents!

This month we've been talking about Jesus for Dummies. Probably makes you cringe a bit using Jesus and Dummies in the same sentence but the reality is we all need to revisit the basics often in our walk with God. We began the series this month talking about the power of the Word of God and the practical effect it can have in our lives if we'll just get it inside of us. The following week I spoke about Giving and how essential it is in our Christian walk to make it a habit. Mother Theresa once said, "If you're not giving what you need then you're not really giving." This quote hit me hard. It's easy for me to give when it doesn't require a whole lot of sacrifice. The third week's message was called "Do something." A big thing that set Jesus apart from the others in His day is that He didn't just talk alot, but He actually did the stuff He spoke about. I talked about 3 reasons why we hesitate to act out God's word:

1) We plan to eventually.
2) What if it doesn't work?
3) We don't truly believe it.

At one point I told a teen in the audience I had ten dollars in my pocket and all they had to do was come up and I would give it to them. The first teen didn't believe me and so she didn't come up. The second teen ran up and stood beside me. I asked why she came up. She said, "Well you're probably lying but I figured I'd take a chance." I searched all my pockets finding nothing and finally pulled out $10 from my shirt pocket. She was thrilled! The other teen regretted not coming up, which painted a perfect picture of what happens when we fail to act because we don't truly believe. The ones who make a difference in this world are the ones who step out and take a chance. Last night I spoke about Discipleship. I showed them several pictures of stereotypical teens of different genres. I had them tell me as much as they could just by looking at a picture. I then talked about the tendency we all have to imitate others, but also the reality that we are all being imitated by someone. I brought it around to the importance of imitating Christ so that others will follow our lead.

After the message last night I announced a new discipleship group we will be starting on February 6. It will go from 5pm - 5:45pm every Wednesday. Afterwards the teens will have an opportunity to serve by helping to set up for FlipSide. Our first study will be based on a book called "Chase the Lion - Stepping confidently into the unknown." I have pre-ordered 10 books to sell at cost for $10 each or you may order your own HERE. If your teen is interested in being a part of this exciting group please drop me a line. I've asked that those who choose to be involved take the commitment seriously. I understand there are several teens who are already committed elsewhere. As we see how this Discipleship Group works we will explore other options to include as many as possible in the future.

Thank you so much for your time. On behalf of myself and our staff thank you so much for the incredible opportunity to pour into your teens!
